New regulatory framework for Alternative Electricity Services

The Energy and Water Ombudsman, Chris Field PSM, welcomed the passage of new legislation that extend consumer protections to customers of new business models that had seen a lack of protections for consumers, compared to traditional electricity supply.

A new framework, overseen by the Economic Regulation Authority, will see customers have recourse to the Energy and Water Ombudsman.

“This is a highly welcome development,” said Mr Field. “I acknowledge the commitment of both the former Energy Minister Bill Johnston MLA and current Energy Minister Reece Whitby MLA to this important development.”

More information about the new regulatory framework and consultation can be found on the Energy Policy WA website.
